Donate to build year-round opposition to Tim Eyman
The 2009 elections are now over. The remarkable coalition that came together to oppose Tim Eyman's Initiative 1033 has prevailed, but as the NO on I-1033 campaign committee disbands, Eyman is already plotting his next move, and will soon be back with yet another destructive initiative.
We can't exile Tim Eyman to Siberia, and state law doesn't let us stop him from sponsoring any more initiatives. But there is one thing we can do: Create a permanent defense against Tim Eyman's reverse-Robin Hood initiatives. The only way to stop Tim Eyman is to maintain year round opposition to his ideas.

To protect them, and protect our quality of life, we need infrastructure: a citizen's intelligence network to monitor Eyman's signature drives, online media to report on Eyman's activities, researchers to evaluate the negative impact of his measures, and tools to reach journalists, elected leaders, and other activists early so they hear our side of the story.
We need a permanent organization that will talk about the real consequences of Eyman's initiatives. Because we know Tim Eyman won't ever talk about that himself. The only way he ever succeeds is by hiding the real cost of his initiatives from Washington's citizens.
But that costs money. We need you to support a permanent defense against right wing initiatives.
The Northwest Progressive Institute was a key part of the No on I-1033 coalition. We're so grateful to everyone who supported us in that effort. But we can't keep playing catch-up. The stakes are too high. From now on, we meet Tim Eyman at the starting line. No more head starts.
Politics is a team sport, and we're counting on your support of a permanent defense for Washington State.

Opposition committees, like the one that defeated I-1033, come and go. But Tim Eyman has a permanent organization dedicated to promoting his poison-pill initiatives. Progressives need a permanent defense against Tim Eyman's persistent attacks on our state. Without a permanent organization dedicated to opposing right-wing initiatives, Eyman gains weeks or even months of unopposed promotion.
We waste precious time in which Eyman seizes control of the debate and presents the issues on his terms, with no one to refute his lies.
Standing firm against Tim Eyman's initiatives, or those from any other initiative flim-flam hawker who might come along, is something we at the Northwest Progressive Institute know is necessary. But we can't do it alone. We need your financial support to maintain what we've already built, and construct a stronger, permanent, first line of defense to protect our common wealth against Eyman's harmful ideas.
Ask yourself: How much is it worth it to you to have a team of people dedicated to fighting Eyman, presenting the issues in progressive terms, week after week and month after month? How much is it worth it to you to have a team of people constantly working to reform the initiative and referendum process to stop Eyman's abuse of it?
Waiting for Eyman to make the first move guarantees that we start every election by digging ourselves out of a hole. It guarantees that we always have to fight to come from behind, rather than starting the race the moment Eyman files his paperwork.
Giving Eyman and his propaganda a head start is risky and dangerous. Tim Eyman has a gift for salesmanship and deception: Allowing him to control the debate for the better part of each year is not an option.
There's simply too much at stake. In today's economy, the people who rely on essential public services every day are vulnerable and exposed like never before. They're the ones who suffer the most from Eyman's schemes.
